Karolann Hoeltzle
Karolann's creative journey in art began in front of the Winky Dink cartoon TV show back in 1953. You'll have to ask her about that! On the last day of 2nd grade classes, Mr. I.D. Miller asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Her response to Mr. Miller, "an art teacher!" He remained her art teacher and creative mentor until she graduated from high school in 1966. Karolann was unable to focus her career choice and strayed from her career in art to dedicate her energy for several years as a parent of four children. During the same time, Karolann became a believing Christian and completed a Master's Degree in Counseling. Karolann received a Traumatic Brain Injury that made it difficult to pursue her career as a Christian counselor. However, this disability only served to re-ignite her love of the arts. Karolann began working with animals in theatre. Her love for animals and artistic talent have allowed her to develop the skill and lifelike colored pencil art she is able to accomplish in animal portraiture. Her goal with each work is to reflect its life and character. Her pencil technique is self-taught, and as time will allow, she hopes to be teaching at the Winkler Gallery Art Education Center and pass what she has developed on to aspiring pencil artists.
